The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has assured the public that the Takoradi Center for National Culture (CNC) will be completed by December 2024. This announcement was made during an interview on Skyy Power FM in Takoradi on 5th July, 2024.
The Takoradi CNC, a flagship project aimed at bolstering the creative arts industry, has been in development for several years. Its completion is expected to provide a state-of-the-art facility for Artists, performers, and cultural practitioners in the Western Region. The center will feature a modern auditorium, exhibition halls, and studio spaces designed to foster creativity and innovation.
Andrew Mercer who is also the Member of Parliament for Sekondi emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting the arts and culture sector as a vital component of national development.
The Minister mentioned that, the Ministry has secured a facility of GHc48 million to complete the project. He is optimistic that; “The completion of the Takoradi CNC will mark a significant milestone in our efforts to support the creative economy. This facility will not only serve as a hub for artistic expression but also create numerous job opportunities and drive tourism in the region,” adding that, in his short stay at the Ministry, he is determined to complete this project as his legacy in the Ministry.
The project, which has faced several delays due to funding and logistical challenges, is now on track to meet its new deadline. The minister assured that all necessary resources have been allocated to ensure timely completion.
As the December deadline approaches, all eyes will be on Takoradi to witness the inauguration of what promises to be a landmark institution for Ghana’s creative arts landscape.
