Black Stars open camp in Accra ahead of 2025 AFCON qualifiers

The Black Stars have officially opened their training camp in Accra as they gear up for their first two matches in the qualifiers for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana will face Angola and Niger in separate fixtures as part of their campaign to secure a spot in the prestigious continental tournament.

Head coach Otto Addo announced his squad for the qualifiers last Thursday, calling up several key players to bolster the team.

As of Sunday night, seven players had reported to the Black Stars’ camp ahead of the team’s first training session. The players already in attendance include Tariq Lamptey, Joseph Wollacott, Ibrahim Osman, Jonas Adjetey, Antoine Semenyo, Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Frederick Asare. Their early arrival will allow them to acclimate and prepare for the intense training sessions ahead.

More players are expected to join the camp on Monday morning, with coach Otto Addo scheduled to oversee the first training session later in the evening. The coaching staff is keen to maximize preparation time to ensure that the team is in top form for the upcoming qualifiers.

Ghana’s first match will be against Angola on Thursday, September 5, at home, followed by an away encounter against Niger on September 9. These matches are crucial for the Black Stars as they aim to secure points early in the qualifiers and build momentum ahead of the AFCON tournament.
