Police refute claims Salifu Amoako’s son is not kept at Osu Correctional Centre

The Ghana Police Service has disputed claims that Salifu Amoako’s son, the 16-year-old suspect in East Legon’s accident is not being held at the Osu Correctional Centre.

The police in a statement on November 5 explained that the suspect following the court’s order on November 1 was taken to the correctional centre where he’s still being kept.

The police said the claims are false and has begun investigations to identify persons disseminating the false report for them to face justice.

According to the police, they have identified two social media accounts; a TikTok and Facebook accounts in connection with the false publication.

“We therefore wish to state that this claim is false and constitutes the offence of Publication of false news, contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

“The police have so far identified two social media accounts; a TikTok user with the handle “prisywanlov1” and a Facebook user with the handle “EmpressPapa A-Amigos,” in connection with the false publication, and investigations are underway to establish the individuals behind these accounts for them to face justice,” the statement stated.

The police described the actions by these individuals as “unGhanaian” and urged the public to allow the bereaved families to grieve in peace.
