Sekondi High Court to determine fate of Joana Gyan today

The Sekondi High Court will today, Thursday, November 7, 2024, determine the fate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central, Joana Gyan Cudjoe.

The NDC escalated its legal battle over the recognition of its parliamentary candidate by filing a fresh writ at the Sekondi High Court.

This comes in the wake of a setback on Thursday, October 31, 2024, when the Accra High Court [General Jurisdiction 6] dismissed the NDC’s earlier application for an injunction aimed at halting the Electoral Commission’s (EC) ballot paper printing process and the issuance of the notice of poll for the upcoming parliamentary election in Amenfi Central.

But a notice of poll intercepted by Onua News indicates that the Electoral Commission has printed the notice of poll for the disputed Amenfi Central Constituency without the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate, Joana Gyan Cudjoe.

The notice of poll has three contestants, two independent candidates, and the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate.

They are Peter Yaw Kwakye-Ackah with Lantern as his symbol, Karl Mark Arhin with Eagle as his symbol and the NPP parliamentary candidate, Albert Wiredu Arkoh.

The final determination at Sekondi High Court today would either give Joana Gyan the opportunity to be on the ballot paper or the NDC would nominate a different candidate.
