A towering statue has been unveiled at Sekondi in the Western Region to honor President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, recognizing his administration’s contributions to region’s development.
The monument, prominently placed in front of the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, was revealed during the President’s recent “Thank You” tour of the Western Region.
The unveiling ceremony was led by Western Regional Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, who highlighted several landmark projects initiated under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
These include the ongoing rehabilitation of Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the construction of a 3-tier Sinohydro interchange, and the redevelopment of the Takoradi Market Circle — projects that have significantly enhanced the region’s infrastructure.
Minister Darko-Mensah praised President Akufo-Addo for spearheading major developments, particularly the initiation of a petroleum hub project in Western Nzema.
This hub, once completed, is expected to generate over 780,000 jobs, offering substantial opportunities to the region’s youth.
On roads, he noted the success of the District Road Improvement Project, a government initiative that has facilitated the construction of many roads.
“The District Road Improvement Project which is the brainchild of Akufo-Addo-led government has seen the completion of 500 kilometers road in the region,” he stated.
In light of these developmental achievements, the Western Region administration found it fit to honor President Akufo-Addo as he nears the end of his term.
The statue’s installation has sparked mixed reactions among residents. While some see it as a well-deserved for the president’s contributions to the region, others question its necessity, fueling a broader public debate on its significance and timing.
