Akosua Frema Osei-Opare chairs government transition team

President Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed persons to constitute the Government side of the Transition Team.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, it said the persons were appointed in accordance with Section 1 (1) of the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845) (the “Act”).

The appointed members of the Transition Team are as follows:

  1. Head of the Presidential Staff appointed under the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463) [Chief of Staff] – Hon. Akosua Frema Osei-Opare
  2. The Attorney-General – Godfred Yeboah Dame
  3. Minister responsible for Presidential Affairs – Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu
  4. Minister responsible for Finance – Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam
  5. Minister responsible for the Interior – Hon. Henry Quartey
  6. Minister responsible for Defence – Hon. Dominic Nitiwul
  7. Minister responsible for Foreign Affairs – Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey
  8. Minister responsible for Local Government – Hon. Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah
  9. Minister responsible for National Security – Hon. Albert Kan Dapaah

Additionally, in line with Section 1 (2) of the Act, the Team shall include the following individuals:

  1. The Head of Civil Service – Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darkoh
  2. The Head of the Local Government Service – Dr. Nana Ato Arthur
  3. The Secretary to the Cabinet – Ambassador Mercy Debrah-Karikari
  4. The National Security Coordinator – Mr. Edward Asomani

The statement said that the Team will be officially inaugurated on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, following a meeting between the President and the President-elect, who will serve as Co-Chairpersons of the Team.

It said President Akufo-Addo has delegated Akosua Frema Osei-Opare to act as Co-Chairperson on the Team in the absence of the President.

Furthermore, pursuant to Section 5 (1) of the Act, the President has appointed the former Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, to the Advisory Council.

The Chairperson of the Advisory Council will be the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Alban Bagbin.

The statement further said that the President-elect, John Mahama has, as of Tuesday evening, put out a statement announcing the members of his side of the team.

“The team is tasked with ensuring a seamless and efficient transfer of executive authority, as mandated by the Act, to maintain stability and continuity in governance,” the statement read.

It reaffirmed President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition to strengthen the nation’s democratic credentials further.
