The incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi and Tourism Minister, Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, has lost his seat in a keenly contested election.
Egyapa Mercer per the provisional results lost to the National Democratic Congress’ Blay Nyameke Armah.
The provisional results say Egyapa Mercer, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 11,084 votes, representing 42.94% of the total valid votes, while Blay Nyameke Armah secured 14,558 votes, corresponding to 56.40%.
Out of the 25,813 votes cast, 171 ballots were rejected. The NDC first occupied that seat in 1996 with the late Albert Bosomtwi Sam.
Egyapa Mercer had previously dominated in the 2016 and 2020 elections after Papa Owusu Ankomah made a decision not to contest anymore.
