Concerned Ex – Staff and Sympathisers of GN Bank/Savings have expressed confidence in the commitment of President-elect John Dramani Mahama to adhere to his promise to restore GN Bank/Savings and other financial institutions that were unjustly collapsed by the banking sector cleanup under the Akufo-Addo led NPP government.
“We are encouraged by your commitment to restore the indigenous financial institutions that were unjustifiably dismantled. Your promise to revive GN (Savings) bank, some of the defunct banks, along with several Savings and Loans and Fund Management companies resonate deeply with our aspirations for economic recovery and stability” the group stated in a press statement issued on 17th December, 2024 in Accra and signed by the Convener
Philip Sarpiah.
“We acknowledge the significant challenges faced by our nation due to the 2019 banking crisis, which had devastating effects on millions of Ghanaians. The action taken by the previous administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Finance Minister Ken Ofori – Atta have left a deep and lasting impact on our financial landscape” the statement read.
According to the Founder of the bank, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the closing down of his bank which had about three hundred branches is inimical to the socioeconomic development of the nation. While some sympathisers accuse the NPP Government of politically persecuting Dr. Nduom who is their political opponent by collapsing his financial company.
The former employees of the defunct Bank also extended their heartfelt congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for winning the 2024 presidential election.
“This overwhelming support is a clear manifestation of the collective will of our community united in the desire for meaningful change in Ghana” they reposed confidence in the president-elect.
Mr. Mahama during his campaign promised to restore the banks that were collapsed by the outgoing NPP government in the Banking sector clean-up exercise that took place between 2017 and 2020 after an unbiased assessment.
“Fintechs working in the agricultural and agribusiness space will be used as conduits for providing targeted micro-credit for farmers. We will also revive Dr Nduom’s concept of micro GN banks to boost the rural economy. Your theme underscores the urgency and importance of charting a strategic path forward,” John Mahama said while delivering a keynote address at the 8th Ghana CEO Summit in Accra Monday, May 27, 2024.
The group prayed for the mantle of leadership and the qualities needed to lead Ghana towards a brighter future to be given to Mr. Mahama.
