Mahama hints at severe measures in the next 4 years to reset the economy

President-elect John Mahama has said that for all its historic undertones, the events of the 2024 elections depict that Ghanaians have little tolerance for bad governance, particularly of the sort witnessed in the past eight years.

He added that the mandate extended to him and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also serves as self-awareness of what fate awaits them if they fail to meet the aspirations of Ghanaians and govern with arrogance.

“My brothers and sisters, there is much to do to salvage our country and reset it. We have to start with the resetting of the relationship between citizens and elected officials. We must never forget that the people of Ghana have chosen us to represent their wishes and best interest.

It is the reason that we will be initiating important governance reforms and sometimes initiate severe measures in the next four years to reset our nation and bring it back on track as the black star of Africa” the president-elect mentioned in his address to the country after he was declared winner of the 2024 presidential election.

He went on to call on his supporters to be brief in their jubilations over the victory because the weight of work ahead is heavy and the expectations of Ghanaians are very high which his government and party cannot afford to fail.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensa on Monday 9 December, 2024 declared former President John Mahama as winner of the 2024 Presidential Election polling 56.55% of total valid votes with results from 267 Constituencies.

The Chairperson explained that results from 9 Constituencies are still outstanding due to political party supporters massing up at various collation centres and causing damage to election materials as well as obstructing the work of Election Officials.

Nevertheless, the EC Chairperson explained that even if all the votes in the 9 constituencies go for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the closest candidate, John Mahama will still be the winner. Hence, she went ahead to declare former President John Dramani Mahama as winner of the Presidential Election and President-Elect of the Republic of Ghana.

“I have the singular honour as the Returning Officer of the 2024 Presidential Election to declare His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as the winner of the 2024 Presidential Election and the President-Elect of the Republic of Ghana, with a total percentage of 56.55%. Congratulations, Sir. It is finished!” the EC chairperson declared.
