Police arrest 106 suspects over post-election violence

The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of nine suspects linked to the arson attack on the Electoral Commission (EC) office at Ayensuano in the Eastern Region. This development brings the total number of arrests related to post-election disturbances to 106.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police confirmed that all 106 suspects are “currently undergoing due legal processes.” The suspects, now in custody, are assisting with investigations.
“This arrest brings the total number of suspects so far arrested in connection with the post-election disturbances to 106, all of whom are currently undergoing due legal processes,” the statement said.
The attack on the Ayensuano EC office is one of several violent incidents recorded in the aftermath of the recent elections. Police investigations into these disturbances have intensified, with authorities vowing to bring all perpetrators to justice.
“All suspects are in custody assisting the Police investigation, and they will be made to face justice,” the statement emphasized.
The Police also reassured Ghanaians of their commitment to maintaining peace and stability. “We wish to once again assure the public that the Police and other security agencies are committed to the protection of our communities to maintain law and order,” the statement concluded.
These arrests form part of a broader crackdown on incidents of nationwide election-related violence.
