MP for Essikado-Ketan calls for emergency services in Parliament

Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan, Prof. Dr. Grace Ayensu -Danquah has pointed out the absence of emergency services at the Parliament House.

According to Dr. Prof. Ayensu-Danquah, parliamentarians risk losing their lives if there are any medical occurrences.

Speaker on the floor of Parliament today, Prof. Ayensu-Danquah recounted how unprofessional the ADC of Former President Akuffo Addo was handled when he collapsed.

She implored the house to consider establishing an emergency service team to prevent any unforeseen circumstances.

” Mr. Speaker, since I came into the parliament, maybe about a couple weeks ago, I have gone around the entire premises. And, Mr. Speaker, I don’t see any emergency kits or any emergency services provided for us parliamentarians. I don’t see AEDs in the bathrooms or in the hallways.

And the other day, we also saw the former president’s ADC, who fainted in the chamber, and the way the ADC was actually carted away was not per standard of care. So, Mr. Speaker, as a trauma surgeon myself, I would like to propose that maybe, with your indulgence, we have a committee that might even have an emergency services team so that we can walk the premises and see how best we can help ourselves in the room.”
