Raid of former BoG Governor’s home part of information gathering process – Shamima Muslim

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim has justified the alleged home raiding and arrest of some former officials who served under the erstwhile NPP administration.

Speaking in an interview on TV’S New Day, Thursday, March 20, 2025, she said what is being witnessed is only a means of information gathering and part of ongoing investigations.

Her comment follows the allegations that National Security Operatives on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, raided the home of former Bank of Governor, Ernest Addison. On the same day, a journalist, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah was also arrested by National Security Operatives and released later in the evening.

On February 11, 2025, the home of former finance minister, Ken Ofori-Atta was also allegedly raided by some national security operatives who in addition searched the home of the former minister.

Shamima Muslim noted that although she is yet to get the full briefing on the latest raiding of Dr. Ernest Addison’s home, she believes these officials are persons of interest in ongoing investigations, hence the visit to their homes.

“I’m yet to get to the office to receive a full briefing on the matter but what I can say is that there are some actions going on, there are some investigations ongoing, there are persons of interest who will be now and again invited to help the investigation process.

“There are means of gathering information, and one of the means is to visit the homes of these persons of interest,” she explained.

She further called for due process to be followed in the arrest of these individuals.

“I will just say that we should execute these processes with due recourse to due process and once we are doing that, we should have no problem,” she added.

Following the raiding of the former BoG’s home and the arrest of Okatakyie, Minority Leader, Afenyo-Markin and other NPP executives condemned the act, highlighting the need for respect of democracy and human rights.

However, Shamima Muslim argued that the Minority’s response to the action taken by government is an attempt to evade accountability by trying to sabotage the NDC government.

She asserted that the NDC government is more respectful in its demand for accountability than what was witnessed under the NPP government, referencing unfair treatment experienced by some NDC officials in 2017 when former President Akufo-Addo assumed office.

“However, we should also be mindful of how the minority would always deliberately position themselves to be avers to any action that government takes in its quest to demand audit and accountability of the outgone government…sometimes exaggerating the issue and trying to deliberately misrepresent the action that is being taken.

“Misplaced propaganda and mischief which is obvious because their intention is to entrench themselves within the system so they can leverage to sabotage. It is their grand agenda, ” she said.

She urged Ghanaians not to fall victims of the NPP’s propaganda as President Mahama’s reset agenda is on course.
