I’m not running for NPP flagbearer in 2028 – Napo

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has said he does not intend to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearership for the 2028 elections.

He was reacting to a media question in relation to speculation that he was nursing a presidential ambition and intends to contest the next flag bearer race of the NPP.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday [April 16, 2025], Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh said his priority was focused on how to help build a united party ahead of the 2028 elections.

Popularly known as NAPO [Nana Poku], Dr Opoku Prempeh who partnered Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 presidential election on the ticket of the NPP said he is focused on supporting the party’s campaign and has no plans to pursue any future leadership bid.

“Me, personally? No, I’m not running 2028,” was his response when he was asked by the journalists at the Alisa Hotel on Wednesday where the NPP was holding a national council meeting.
