National Security seeks evacuation of 706 ECG containers to Abelemkpe from Tema Port

The National Security Council Secretariat has formally requested assistance from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) to evacuate 706 containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The confidential letter, dated March 7, 2025, and signed by National Security Coordinator Osman Abdul-Razak, instructs that the containers be transferred to the National Security Council Secretariat’s warehouse in Abelemkpe, Accra.

The document, which has been received and stamped by the GPHA, also calls for the suspension of all port charges on the containers until ongoing investigations are concluded.

Copies of the letter were sent to the Minister of Transport and the Commissioner-General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), indicating high-level governmental oversight on the matter.

Background: ECG’s missing containers

The directive comes amid reports of missing or unaccounted-for ECG containers that have been the subject of investigations. Over the past months, concerns have been raised regarding the disappearance or delay in clearing vital electrical equipment meant for national power distribution.

Reports suggest that irregularities in procurement and clearance procedures have led to financial losses and supply chain disruptions.

Further updates are expected as this story unfolds.
