Canada commits C$30m to Ghana’s TVET initiative – High Commissioner to Ghana

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening educational cooperation with Canada during a courtesy call by the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat.

In his remarks, Mr Iddrisu expressed appreciation for Canada’s ongoing support to Ghana’s development, particularly in the education sector.

“Canada’s dedication to poverty alleviation and education has been remarkable, and Ghana has greatly benefited from this partnership,” he said.

The Minister also called for enhanced collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries, emphasizing the value of academic exchange and innovation.

Responding to the Minister, H.E. Montrat highlighted Canada’s focus on skills development and youth empowerment.

“Our focus is to support Ghana in developing a skilled workforce that can compete globally,” she noted.

She further announced that Canada has committed 30 million Canadian dollars towards youth competency-based training and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana.

Haruna Iddrisu welcomed the announcement and underscored the importance of such investments in transforming Ghana’s education system.

“Strengthening technical education and laying a solid foundation for learning are key to Ghana’s educational transformation, and we look forward to deepening this partnership with Canada,” he added.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared vision of inclusive, quality education that equips young people with the skills needed for the future.
