Police arrest man seen in viral video assaulting wife at Ofankor

The police has arrested the man seen in a viral video assaulting a woman, said to be his wife, at Ofankor in Greater Accra.

A neighbour, who had witnessed the incident, reportedly captured it on video and shared it on social media.

According the person who recorded the video, he described the man as a landlord who was always beating the wife.

This generated public discussion and prompted the police to move in to effect the arrest.

The suspect, has been identified by the police as John Odartey Lamptey.

He was arrested on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family residence at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipal area of Greater Accra.

Following his arrest, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video, were also arrested, and the tenant was rescued to ensure her safety.

The police in a press statement explained that efforts were underway to locate and ensure the safety of the wife, who had fled the scene before the Police arrived.

POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN VIRAL FACEBOOK VIDEO ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

  1. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.
  2. The suspect, identified as John Odartey Lamptey, was arrested on Monday, November 17th 2025, at the family residence.
  3. Following his arrest, two of his siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, who attempted to attack a female tenant they suspected of recording and circulating the video, were also arrested, and the tenant was rescued to ensure her safety.
  4. Efforts are underway to locate and ensure the safety of the wife who had fled the scene before the Police arrived.
  5. The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law.
