The Western Central Regional Police Command has launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Mahamo Village near Benso.
The incident, which began as a domestic dispute, turned fatal after the victim attempted to intervene.
According to a police statement released by Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson, Head of the Public Affairs Unit, the suspect, 32-year-old John Asiedu, was arrested on the morning of Saturday, February 7, 2026, by local committee members. He was handed over to the Benso Police Station with visible blood stains.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the tragedy stemmed from a misunderstanding between Asiedu and his wife, Gifty Yoke. A neighbour, who lived close by, stepped in to separate the arguing couple.
An angered Asiedu later went to the neighbour’s residence armed with a piece of wood and allegedly attacked him, inflicting several injuries to the left side of his head.
The victim was initially rushed to the Mahamo Clinic, treated, and discharged. However, his condition worsened the following day, Sunday, February 8. He was rushed back to the clinic but died shortly after arrival.
The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Apinto Government Hospital Mortuary for preservation and an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Police are working to locate and inform his relatives.
The suspect, John Asiedu, remains in police custody and is assisting with the ongoing investigation. The Regional Police Command has assured the public that the case is being treated with utmost seriousness and that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with additional information to come forward and assist the police.
