‘My victory was divine’ – Sam George

The Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram constituency, Sam George believes that his victory in the party’s recently held parliamentary primaries was divine.

He said the marginal victory that saw him with only seven votes ahead of his contender, Michael Kwettey, was a signal from God to shame his critics.

“With my understanding of all the dynamics that was at play in my constituency, I daresay that any other person apart from me would have lost this election. I am deeply spiritual, [I’m a] Christian. I have a close walk with God. The results are God speaking to everybody who thinks that they are waging war with me. The numbers you see there have deep meanings,” he told Bernard Avle, host of Citi TV‘s The Point of View, on Monday.

Sam George polled 407 votes while his contender, Michael Kwettey, the party’s constituency chairman, polled 400 votes.

wo ballots were rejected out of the total votes of 809.

Sam George had told Citi News he would win by over 60% of the total votes cast but that was not meant to be as his victory was only by a slim margin.

Political watchers have said that for an incumbent Member of Parliament to win with only seven votes in an internal election, it means that the candidate has lost support and is likely to lose at the national level, but Sam George thinks otherwise.

“I led with a margin of seven, [and the number] seven is perfection. There were five delegates who everybody knows are my supporters who someway somehow had their names disappear in the register. The director of elections actually did write a letter, approving that they should vote. Just before they wanted to vote, he reversed the decision. I would have beaten him [my contender] with 12 [votes] but God wanted people to see His hands,” he said.

Sam George is hopeful that he will cause another upset for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate for the area in the 2020 parliamentary elections by winning convincingly in that polls.
