As coronavirus has become an invisible enemy the world is fighting and invention has become very necessary in these trying times, the Medical Superintendent at Essam Government Hospital in the Bia West District of the Western North Region, Dr Emmanuel Kwesi Coomson has invented a medical face shield to help health practitioners in the fight against coronavirus.
Speaking to www.233times.net, Dr. Coomson said that “the face shield is made of transparent film, foam, shoe makers glue and elastic band. “It has become difficult to get them (face shield) in recent times and also those ones available have become very expensive but this is basic to do” Dr. Coomson told www.233times.net.
“It does not cost more than 5cedis to produce one of these face shields” Dr. Coomson revealed. According to Dr. Coomson, the face shield is a personal protective equipment used by medical practitioners for facial protection from splashes, sprays and spatter of body fluids.
The ‘Coomson Face Shield’ according to Dr. Coomson is disposable, “it can easily be burnt. Even though it can be soaked in chlorine and reused but it is not expensive to produce so it is better to dispose it after use.”
“In my opinion, looking at how coronavirus is moving, certain facilities should be able to duplicate it and not burden government with some things which are basic and can easily be produced ourselves” Dr. Coomson said.
“I am ready to teach people to be able to produce this themselves” Dr. Coomson ended.
