COVID-19: Ghana’s cases now 7,117

The Covid-19 related deaths in Accra of a 64-year-old male and a 60-year-old female has brought Ghana’s fatalities due to the disease to 34, according to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Both cases had underlying health challenges – diabetes and hypertension respectively – and died “after two days on admission” to hospital after presenting with severe respiratory symptoms.

The latest update by the GHS also puts Ghana’s total Covid-19 positive case count at 7,117 and recoveries of 2,317. That leaves the number of active cases at 4,766, with three of them described as critical and 17 others as severe.

The Greater Accra region continues to report the most overall cases with 5,008 positives, followed by Ashanti region at 1,085 cases. However, the Western region, currently at third with 344 cases in terms of regional reports, appears to be the new hotspot in the country. A previous count had the region at 210.

The figures have come from a total of 203,383 tests.
