Religious activities, visitations banned as SHS final year Students resume school

There will be no religious activities and visitations would not be allowed as part of measures announced by Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh as schools re-open for final year students after the interruption by COVID-19.

Other measures for JHS  as announced by the Education Minister are:

• Not more than 30 students for in one class
• Classes will be organized from 9 am to 1 pm each day
• No breaks outside the classroom
• No sports or sporting events

For SHS;

• Not more than 25 students in a class.
• Day students in boarding schools assimilated into the boarding house
• Day schools will have enhanced daily health protocols.
• Dining will be in batches in boarding schools.
• No sports and sporting events are allowed.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh explained at a  press conference on Tuesday that  the easing of restrictions is to allow final year students take their exams and that the measures were designed to stop the schools from becoming flashpoints for the spread of the Coronavirus.

“When schools reopen, they will not be available for religious activities,” the sector Minister said. “It is simple, we do not want too many interactions so that should the unexpected happen, we can trace who might have come to the school with virus. So we want to keep it that only students and their lecturers are in school”, he said.

“When the junior and senior schools reopen, there will be no visitors allowed during the period that they are in school. Parents can no longer go and visit their kids for that period,” he added.

The no religious and no visitation policies are just two of the many measures the Education Minister has rolled out to enable final year students in Junior High and Senior take exams.
