An 18 year old confidence trickster whose name is given as Eric Mensah aka Star Pono was arrested by the Takoradi Police Patrol team and sent to Kwesimintsim Police Station on Friday 28th August, 2020 for allegedly using Facebook to defraud unsuspecting Ghanaians in the name of Kofi Kinaata and ‘Made in Taadi Concert’ organizers.
Star Pono who is a Rapper admitted editing soft copy posters of Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Made in Taadi Concert’ (December 2019 edition) and replaced the phone numbers on the posters with his number and circulated it on his Facebook and other social media.
As a result, he swindled some of the Artistes who called to perform at the 21st December, 2019 event. According to Star Pono, “I charged them GHc10.00 and had only three victims.”
He revealed that he did that to save money to buy sneakers.
Background
Prior to the 2019 edition of ‘Made in Taadi Concert’ by Kofi Kinaata, the Public Relations (PR) Department of Team Move circulated soft copy posters online for interested Artistes to call and register to perform at the Concert.
The PR Department received calls from some Artistes who knew some of the team members personally, asking if they are to pay any amount before they perform since calls to the person who registers the Artistes is demanding a fee before registering them.
Upon investigations, it came to the realization of the team that there were two posters online; one circulated by the PR department and one with a strange number.
Posing as an Artiste who had interest to perform at 2019 Made in Taadi Concert, a team member of Team Move called the number and was charged GHc 50.00 but bargained to GHc 30.00. The team member paid the money and was given directions by Star Pono.
Star Pono requested for a picture of the team member in order to customize a poster for him. A picture was sent to him and he further requested for call credit and more money to promote the songs of the pseudo Artiste before the 2019 Made in Taadi Concert since Kofi Kinaata has directed that only Artistes with popular songs are made to perform.
Arrest
He (Star Pono) has been on the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of Ghana Police’s wanted list since December 2019. Since then, he has been playing hide and seek until he was finally nabbed by the Police Patrol team on Friday 28th August, 2020 whilst on Sharp FM’s ‘Open House Party’ rap programme as a guest rapper.
His father and another relative were called to the police station around 11pm and was finally released from ‘counter-back’ around 1am on Saturday 29th August, 2020.
He has been directed to use his social media pages to apologize for the act.
