France’s ‘Better World Fund Cannes Film Festival’ honours Western Regional Minister

The Western Regional Minister, Dr. Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah was on 12th July recognised at the Better World Fund Cannes Film Festival in France.

The honorary of the Member of Parliament (MP) for Takoradi Constituency was in recognition of his ardent promotion and implementation of responsible mining activities in Ghana.

Dr. Okyere Darko-Mensah was honored in the ‘Social Impact Award’ category for promoting zero mercury in small-scale mining in Ghana.

Since last two years, the Minister who doubles as MP and his team have organized The ‘Ghana Gold Expo’ to engage stakeholders to adopt best practices in mining.

The Ghana Mining Week, which is the second edition of The Ghana Gold Expo was held in July 2021 in Takoradi and is considered the gold hub of the country.

Ghana is the largest producer of gold in Africa, overtaking South Africa in 2019.
