The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ahanta West, Mr John Agyare, says that the government is in the process of fixing every single road in the Municipality and the results will be evident soon.
Speaking on the Jolly Breakfast Show on Tuesday, September 6, Mr John Agyare said even though the work is moving at a slow pace, there is hope that the roads will be fixed.
He said, “Indeed we have road problems in Ahanta West but with the help of the current MP and government, work is on course to fix them and the end result is what they are waiting on at the moment.”
Speaking on the St Mary’s to Agona Nkwanta Nkwanta stretch which is a major concern to the people, Mr Agyare noted that the road has been awarded to a contractor and as the PTC Interchange is being constructed, the road will be fixed in the process.
“The road is a highway and it is the responsibility of the Highways Authority to fix and manage it from time to time before a major construction is done on that road but the authority did not do their part.”
Mr Agyare indicated the lack of maintenance on the road caused the recent floods causing serious damage but the assembly has reacted by putting in place some measures to maintain the road and reduce the flood.
“The only thing we can do now as an assembly is to continue maintaining the road with boulders, zero-forty to aid a smooth ride until it is time to completely fix it.”
He concluded by saying the assembly does not have the capacity to fix roads and all they can do is maintain and put in place measures that will aid a smooth drive and wait on the central government for action.
