A 10-year-old Class 4 pupil, Emmanuel Owusu Ampomaah of Beppoh Methodist Primary School has been electrocuted at Beppoh in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region.
The incident happened on Saturday afternoon, January 7, at about 2 PM.
Mr Thomas Enyam, the assembly member of the Beppoh Electoral Area speaking to Skyy News reported that an electrical cable which is being used to connect electricity between two shops has been hanging low for about a week now after the work was abandoned.
The victim playing outside with his friends chanced on the said cable and innocently began to play with it. He got electrocuted the moment he put the cable inside his mouth and died on the spot.
Some community members upon realising the incident rushed to the scene and sent the victim to the Beppoh CHPS compound with the hope of resuscitating him but the victim was long gone.
The police and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) were called to the scene and an investigation was carried out.
Mr Enyam further stated that an autopsy has been carried out at the hospital to ascertain facts relating to the death of the deceased.
He however indicated the victim’s father died when he was just a year old and he was the only one currently assisting his visually impaired mother.
