The Member of Parliament for Sekondi Constituency, Lawyer Andrew Egyapa Mercer has endorsed Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to become the NPP flagbearer.
A number of prominent party members have declared their intention to run for the NPP presidential flagbearer position as the election draws near.
They include the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr Alan Kyeremanten, Mr Kennedy Agyapong, Mr Kwabena Agyepong, Mr Joe Ghartey, Dr Konadu Apraku, Mr Addai-Nimoh, Dr Afriyie Akoto and Mr Boakye Agyarko.
In an interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, Lawyer Egyapa Mercer who is also the Deputy Minister of Energy said he respects all the candidates vying for the position but to him, he believes Dr Bawumia is the man who can win power for the NPP.
He said, “I support Dr Bawumia five hundred per cent (500%), I know all the candidates qualify for the position due to their history in the party, and every one of them has the right to contest but if I look at the entirety of the imminent personality, I believe the vice president stands tall looking at his personality, and above all he represents a minority block in our party.”
He said the NPP as an inclusive party ought to demonstrate that and select Dr Bawumia to lead the party come 2024.
“I have relationships with all contestants but if you look at the data and everything, Dr Bawumia is the fine man.”
Mr Mercer said, he would prefer Dr Martin Opoku Prempreh, the current who is currently the Minister of Energy to be the running mate for Dr Bawumia.
