Health Safety and Environment Manager of Viabuild Africa, Mr Edward Lee Afflade, says work done so far in terms of percentage on the expansion of the Sekondi to Takoradi road is between 25% – 35%.
Mr Afflade speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show with Naomi Afriyie Nyanor, on Monday, April 3, indicated work is still ongoing and noted some changes and features that the new road will bring to the city.
The €65 million project is expected to be completed within 2 years.
The total roads in terms of scope are six (6), namely the Axim Road, the Shippers Council Road, the Adiembra Road, the De-Graft Johnson Road, the Sekondi Road and the Harbour Road.
He said, “Because of the new nature of some of the roads, they are going to be realigned, like the Shippers Council Roundabout to accommodate traffic volume, some roads will stay the same without any realignment, an example of this road will be from the beach road roundabout through the Grand Favour Hotel road.”
“European hospital road will stay the same to the Goodnews Roundabout, what will change is the construction of a new walkway, drainage system, lightening system… There will be some changes from Goodnews Roundabout to Paa Grant Roundabout, the lanes will be 4 lanes, two in two out.”
He further added that the current situation of the PTC interchange will not affect the expansion of the Sekondi – Takoradi road
He said, “We have had a lot of engagement with the Chinese contractors constructing the PTC interchange, it will not have any effect on our work, we will start our project from where we need to start.”
