More than fifteen (15) people have been reported dead in an accident at Gomoa Okyereko in the Central Region on Tuesday, May 30.

The accident involved a Youtong bus travelling from Liberia to Liberia Camp near Buduburam after having a head-on collision with a fuel tanker with registration number, WR 2063-10 heading towards Takoradi.

According to information made accessible to the media, the fuel truck driver was dozing off and missed his lane. Sadly, it collided head-on with the bus that was travelling in the opposite direction.

An eyewitness who is also a taxi driver said, “We saw the tanker driver sleeping whilst driving around 5:30 am this morning. We tried to stop him because he was heading towards a danger zone but he did not recognize us. He missed his lane along the way and had a head-on collision with the bus. We have so far removed fifteen passengers who are already dead. One person is currently trapped in the vehicle and fire officers are cutting through to remove him as well but he is already dead too.”

Twenty-five additional passengers suffered critical injuries and are presently battling for their lives in many hospitals. According to information, the majority of the bus’s passengers are Liberians.
