The Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced an electrician to 10 years in jail with hard work for allegedly luring a 14-year-old girl into a guest home and having repeated sex encounters with her there.
Kwofie was found guilty by the court presided over by Mrs Hathia Ama Manu at the conclusion of the complete trial and received the appropriate penalty.
Kwofie said, “My lady please temper justice with mercy,” when Mrs. Manu asked him if he had anything to say to the court before giving judgement. It will be challenging to care for my two children while I’m away because one is three years old and the other is just four months old.
But the court informed Kwofie that rather than releasing him, she would enforce the law to serve as a warning to others.
prosecutor Juliana Essel-Dadzie, superintendent of police, informed the court of the complaint.
According to the prosecutor, the victim abruptly departed the residence on December 2, 2022, without telling anyone.
She said that despite hours of searching across the community by the complainant and the victim’s siblings, no sign of her could be discovered.
When the victim was questioned by the complainant on December 3, 2022, according to Superintendent Essel-Dadzie, she admitted that Kwofie had seen her at Tamso months before and had offered love to her, which she had accepted.
According to the prosecution, they became friends, and as a result of their familial ties, the victim frequently visited the offender at his home.
According to her, on December 2, 2022, the victim paid her regular visit, and Kwofie enticed her to the Adjeimess guest home in Tarkwa where they had sex.
According to Superintendent Essel-Dadzie, the inmate held the woman captive in the room after satisfying his sexual urges, engaged in many sex sessions with her, and then released her the next day so she could return home.
On December 3, 2022, the complainant brought the victim to the DOVVSU office in Tarkwa to report the incident after receiving a police medical form authorising him to transport the victim to the hospital.
According to the prosecution, Kwofie eventually confessed to the crime in a caution statement he gave in front of a third-party witness after being detained by the police to assist in an investigation.
