Shama District Health Directorate calls for help

To deal with the effects of the quarry explosion in Anto-Aboso, the Shama District Health Directorate has appealed to charitable organisations and people for medical supplies.

The Omni Quarry explosion had a variety of effects on the nearby towns, and the health team provided a variety of aid throughout the week to mitigate the disaster’s effects on people’s health while working under time restrictions.

During a health screening that was sponsored by Lawyer Erickson Abakah, the member of parliament for the Shama constituency, Ms. Naa Dede Okine, the district health director, informed the Ghana News Agency.

She said the health directorate, had managed with some limited suppliers from the Regional Directorate and were at their wit end, “This is an ongoing process, and we need to access affected communities in the four sub-districts to ascertain the level of health impact prescribe medication or even refer to a bigger facility for care.”

In addition, four Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds were negatively impacted by the explosion, which also wrecked the roofs and ceilings of several homes.

She said that the district was continuously engaging with communities to gauge the extent of the effect and record it for potential future measures.

The goal of the eye and general health exam, according to attorney Erickson Abakah, the member of parliament for the Shama seat, is to make sure that medical personnel can identify any signs in time for treatment to prevent issues in the future.

“We know these gases pollute the air and cause irritation on skin, eyes, throat and other parts of the body hence, our decision to organise the screening to save the lives of affected communities.”

More than 300 persons were tested, and some of them were sent to larger medical centres in the area.
