Nunoo-Mensah didn’t accord Ghanaians respect when he said he will not apologise – Ursula Owusu

download (4)Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency has asked Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah, National Security Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama to apologise over his ‘take your passports and get out of the country comments’.

Even though the former Military officer has strongly indicated that he has nothing to apologise for, Mrs Ursula Ekuful, formerly Ursula Owusu feels, ‘it will be in his best interest to apologise’.

Speaking at the inauguration of a nine-unit classroom block at the O’Reilly Senior High School Saturday, the National Security Advisor asked workers who “can’t sacrifice like what some of us have done to take their passports and get out”.

According to him, many of the agitations on the labour front “showed high levels of indiscipline in the country and so if workers are not willing to sacrifice” but will rather go on stike, “they should not be paid”.

Speaking to the issue in a discussion on ‘Kokrokoo’, Mrs Ekuful said Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah is being condemned because of his position as the National Security Advisor. According to her, a lot is expected from a person who is occupying such a ‘critical’ position; as advisor to the President and so “he shouldn’t have made such comments”.

“To make matters murkier he said he will not apologise. He didn’t accord Ghanaians that much respect when he said he will not apologise. There were several ways of saying the same thing he said. And so it will be in his own interest to apologise. Yes some of the labour unions may have erred or their agitations may not be justified; but majority of them have the right to make those demands” she asserted.
