Drivers and youths in the Krobo Odumase, Somanya and surrounding villages have vowed to boycott payment of road tolls starting next week Monday.
This is a response to government’s supposed inaction in repairing unmotorable roads in the area.
In September last year, President Mahama ordered the reconstruction of the roads under a certificate of emergency following agitation from the Chiefs there.
However, this hasn’t been done. The Ghana Private Road Transport Union,GPRTU says it is joining forces with the youth there to boycott payment of road tolls.
Benjamin Ababio, GPRTU Secretary in the area says drivers and passengers are worried about their deplorable roads and are contemplating whether an increase in fares will be acceptable for passengers.
He said “by the end of this week, if we don’t hear anything positive that construction of the road is coming on, we will stop paying road tolls”
