Mbappe to wear mask after terrible nose injury

French star Kylian Mbappe is set to be sidelined for treatment after sustaining a nose fracture during France’s Euro 2024 opener against Austria.

The 25-year-old forward will likely wear a protective mask upon his return to the pitch.

The injury occurred late in the match held in Düsseldorf when Mbappe’s face collided with Kevin Danso’s shoulder while heading the ball.

The impact left Mbappe with a lot of blood on his face, and he required immediate medical attention on the pitch. Despite the injury, Mbappe briefly returned to the field without permission, recieving a yellow card before being substituted by Olivier Giroud.

In a statement, the French Football Federation (FFF) provided an update on Mbappe’s condition:

“Kylian Mbappé returns to the base camp of the French national team. He suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France match held this Monday in Düsseldorf. The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture. Mbappé will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future.

“A mask will be made for him so that the number 10 of the French national team can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment.”

France coach Didier Deschamps expressed concern about Mbappe’s condition, stating, “He’s not doing well. His nose got badly hit. We need to check it out, but it seems quite complicated, which is really very unfortunate for us. The medical staff are checking him out. I saw him on the massage table. He didn’t get off lightly. It’s still to be seen and I cannot at this stage give you a precise answer.”

Mbappe will be crucial to their hopes of winning a third European title. In the match against Austria, he played a pivotal role in the only goal, forcing an own goal by Max Wober.

France may face Netherlands without Kylian Mbappe

However, his potential absence could impact France’s performance in their upcoming match against the Netherlands on Friday.

As France prepares to face the Netherlands, the team will hope for a swift recovery for their captain, while the Dutch team will likely view his potential absence as an opportunity.

For Mbappe, the focus will be on recovery and returning to the field with the aid of a protective mask, ready to continue his impressive career and contribute to his team’s success.
