NDC to stage nationwide demo on Sept. 17

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to hold nationwide protests on September 17, 2024, in protest of what they describe as the Electoral Commission’s (EC) mishandling of irregularities found in the voter register.

The party’s concerns arose during the recent voter exhibition exercise, where they claimed to have identified numerous discrepancies. After meeting with the EC to address these issues, the NDC requested a forensic audit of the register, but this request was rejected.

NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, speaking to the media after submitting John Mahama’s presidential nomination forms, revealed that the party would stage nationwide protests.

Demonstrators are expected to march to the EC’s regional offices across all 16 regions, while the national leadership will deliver a formal petition at the EC’s headquarters in Accra.

Asiedu Nketiah stated, “On September 17, the NDC will launch a massive protest in every regional capital. We will gather at the offices of the Electoral Commission, and in Accra, we will march to the headquarters and submit additional petitions, pressing for the Commission to act in a way that ensures a peaceful, free, and fair election.”
