Female students are not part of your welfare package – NAGRAT to members

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Godwin Awoonor-Yevu has cautioned teachers against taking advantage of their students.

Speaking at an event to mark World Teachers’ Day on October 5, at Kwahu Mpreaso in the Eastern Region. he warned instructors that sexual abuse against students should never be considered a part of their welfare packages.

“Four teachers at a particular school have had separate sexual engagement with their own students, they appeared before the disciplinary committee, and they wept bitterly. Who caused it? “He questioned

“Whenever a teacher is involved in immoral activity no union would come to your aid, it doesn’t fall under welfare package. It becomes a disciplinary issue ” he sternly warned.

He called for a new social contract for teachers that prioritizes their wellbeing.

Mr Godwin Awoonor-Yevu emphasized the need for a participatory policy-making process and constructive dialogue in addressing teachers’ concerns.

“We envisage a new social contract prioritising teachers’ wellbeing, empowering expertise through government support. Safe supportive and inclusive environment, regular professional growth, fair compensation, job security and involving teachers in decision making policy”
