On Monday, October 7 Mr Mahgama received a delegation from the West African Elders Forum led by former President of Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan.
The visit was shortly after Mr Mahama arrived in Accra from his campaign tour of the Savannah region.
“Since 2020, the Forum has been working to help prevent conflict arising mainly from elections in the subregion. This initiative is commendable and very useful, and I had the privilege of leading the Forum’s mission to the recent Nigerian election,” Mr Mahama said.
He added that their presence in Ghana is, therefore, very timely and crucial, with barely 60 days to the election.
“We all want a peaceful election, but a peaceful election is predicated on the groundwork and the preparation that is done before the election.
“If we get everything right in the lead-up, the election will be peaceful and successful. We are unwavering in our commitment, as NDC, to a peaceful election. If we cooperate with each other, especially with the EC, which is supposed to be the neutral arbiter and umpire, we should be able to get it right again,” he said.
