Gov’t finally hands over bungalow to Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey

imagesThe Government of Ghana has finally handed over the Number 2 Mungo Street bungalow to the Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, in accordance with a court ruling to that effect.

The handing over was done on Thursday October 31, 2013. Deputy Trades Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije and his family, have until Thursday, been occupants of the disputed property at Ridge in the Capital city.

XYZ News was present at the bungalow when movers went in to move the belongings of the Deputy Minister and his family to an alternate place arranged for him by Water Resources Works and Housing Minister, Collins Dauda.

Jake Obetsebi Lamptey bought the bungalow in 2008 just before leaving office after the Kufuor administration, in which he served as Minister of Tourism, left office in 2009.

Two Deputy Ministers in the Mills Administration – Dr. Edward Omane Boamah (now minister of Communciations) and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (now Deputy Minister of Education) – dragged the NPP Chairman to court over the purchase of the state-owned property.

The Supreme Court eventually ruled in Obetsebi-Lamptey’s favour and ordered the state to handover the property to him.
