List of NPP MPs defeated in 2024 elections

The 2024 parliamentary elections have resulted in prominent sitting members of Parliament (MPs) losing their seats.

The seats were keenly contested by the two major political parties, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

But at the end, it is the NDC which has gained more seats with a clear majority in the next parliament following the unseating of several parliamentary heavyweights on the NPP side.

K.T. Hammond, a long-serving MP for Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, was unseated by the NDC’s Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani.

Hammond secured 13,275 votes, while Dorani won with 14,229.

Darkoa Newman of Okaikwei South and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful of Ablekuma West also lost their seats, with Mrs Owusu-Ekuful falling to the NDC’s Rev. Kweku Addo, who won with 31,866 votes against her 26,575.

In Ayawaso Central, the incumbent Henry Quartey was defeated by the NDC’s Abdul Rauf Tongym Tubazu, who received 29,755 votes compared to Mr Quartey’s 23,345.

Sylvester Tetteh of Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfro lost to the NDC’s Okle Felix Akwetey by a wide margin of 37,473 votes to 27,888.

Andrew Kofi Egyapa Mercer, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi, lost to Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC. Egyapa Mercer garnered 11,084 votes, while Blay Nyameke Armah secured 14,558 votes.

NPP’s Ophelia Mensah Hayford lost her Mfantseman seat to Prince Ebenezer Arhin of the NDC, who secured 35,832 against her 23,349 votes.

In the keenly contested Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency seat, movie actor John Dumelo unseated his rival, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

In Dormaa East, Twum Barima narrowly lost to Rachel Owusuaa of the NDC, who secured 12,310 votes to Barima’s 12,050.

The NDC also won the Hohoe seat where Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo unseated NPP’s John Peter Amewu.

In Assin Central, a seat the vociferous Ken Ohene Agyapong has held for several years but decided not to contest again, the NDC snatched it from the NPP candidate.
