“I’ll hold the door open” – Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang

The Vice President-elect, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has reaffirmed her commitment to inclusivity and empowerment.

Speaking after the party’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, was declared the winner in the 2024 elections, she vowed to pave the way for others to succeed in her groundbreaking role.

She stated that her historic election as the first female Vice President in Ghana’s history, the position was not about personal glory but about creating opportunities for all.

“I know this is a big responsibility, and I don’t intend to travel the journey by myself. You are all part of it. NDC is an inclusive party, and we are demonstrating it in many ways.

“My job was to open the door and it does not end there, actually, that is where the work begins. I will hold the door open. The method of hope of opening the door, the method of holding the door open so, others wish to travel that door is what I’m implying. It is not a self-aggrandizing position. It is a position that empowers others.

Madam Opoku-Agyemang highlighted the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) dedication to inclusivity and its role in breaking barriers underscoring her commitment to ensuring that others, particularly women, are empowered to follow in her footsteps.

Reflecting on gender representation, the Vice President-elect stressed that the nation’s development requires the contributions of all citizens, regardless of gender.

“This country is not going to be built only by half the gender. Whether we are in the public space or not, the roles we play are significant. As the NDC, we have accepted the responsibility to facilitate this process,” she said.

Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang called on all Ghanaians to contribute to the collective goal of improving the lives of those marginalized or overlooked in society.
