Mahama to organise national conferences on constitution and education reform

President John Mahama has unveiled plans to organise two major national conferences aimed at addressing key challenges in Ghana’s governance and education sectors.

Speaking at the 92nd Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana in Winneba on Thursday, January 9, he outlined initiatives to strengthen the justice system and improve the education landscape.

Mr Mahama revealed plans to establish a committee to prepare for a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference. The conference will seek to reignite discussions on the stalled constitutional review process, build consensus on proposed amendments, and promote judicial independence.

To this end, the new NDC administration is resolutely committed to strengthening our justice system. Justice and peace are the bedrock of our national aspirations,” he emphasised.

He added that the conference would ensure inclusivity and align the proposed amendments with the collective aspirations of Ghanaians.

On the education front, Mr Mahama announced a National Education Review Conference to examine Ghana’s education system from kindergarten to tertiary, including technical and vocational education.

The initiative aims to identify barriers to quality education and propose actionable reforms.

“This conference will review our educational system, right from kindergarten through basic, secondary, tertiary, and technical education, to identify what the hindrances to quality education are,” he stated.

He also expressed optimism that the conference would generate fresh ideas to align education outcomes with national developmental needs.

The President reiterated his administr ation’s commitment to fostering justice and fairness while addressing systemic inequalities and transforming the education sector for a brighter future.
