AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Rome-Jayden-Oduro has admitted representing Ghana is not part of his immediate plans.
Born to a Ghanaian father in Purmerend, Netherlands, Oduro is eligible to play for Ghana and the Netherlands.
The 20-year-old goalkeeper is yet to feature for the senior Dutch team, although playing a prominent role in their youth setups.
Oduro is among the highly-rated youth goalkeepers in Netherlands, with his adaptability to the modern game his biggest strength.
Unfortunately for Jayden, his side was beaten 3-1 by Spurs in the return leg of the Europa League leading to their exit.
Contrary to the fine form showcased by AZ Alkmaar and Jayden in the first leg, which led to the 20-year-old keeping a cleansheet, they were outplayed by Spurs on Thursday night.
Speaking to Londonworld journalist Rahman Osman after AZ’s defeat at the London stadium, Jayden opened up on his national team career.
“What i told everybody is I have to focus on playing for Jong Oranje. So we have to do EUROS, and my focus is here. And so I see it in the future. It is not my priority now,” he said
Although candidly admitting his immediate national team future lies elsewhere, Owusu named Ghanaian icons Ayew and Gyan as inspirations.
“I always liked the Ayew brothers. Also, Asamoah [Gyan] and also a few players.”
AZ will look to bounce back to winning ways when they take on league leaders Ajax over the weekend.
