Helicopter crash: Asantehene sympathises with Mahama

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed his deepest sympathy to President John Mahama following the tragic helicopter crash at Adansi Brofoyeduru that claimed the lives of two cabinet ministers and six others on a national assignment to Obuasi.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Alhaji Mutala Mohammed, ministers of defense and environment, respectively, and six others perished on Wednesday, August 8, 2025, while on board a military helicopter en route to Obuasi from Accra.

Speaking at the Manhyia Palace after the Adansehene, Opagyakotwere Bonsrah Afriyie II, officially informed him of the incident, Otumfuo described the tragedy as a matter of national concern.

According to him, the nation shares in the grief of the bereaved families and the government.

“This is a national concern, and I sympathize with the President in this difficult moment,” the Asantehene said, adding that the loss was not only to the affected families but to the entire country, as the victims died in the line of duty.

Environment Minister Mutula Mohamed and Alhaji Muniru Limuna, a Deputy National Security Coordinator, have since been buried.

The Asantehene urged the nation to rally around the government as they navigate this tragedy, emphasizing unity and compassion in times of loss.
