Ghana international Mohammed Kudus is facing a race against time to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering another injury setback.
The forward had been working his way back from a quad tendon injury sustained earlier in the year while playing for Tottenham Hotspur.
At the time, then interim coach Igor Tudor indicated that Kudus was making steady progress and nearing a return to team training.
“So we have these three weeks after the game on Sunday. He will probably do some part of the things with the squad maybe 10 days after the break,” Tudor said.“I’m not sure. We need to check, but he is progressing very well. Already a little bit with the ball.”
However, the situation has taken a turn for the worse. Kudus has since suffered a relapse, this time involving his hamstring, after recently resuming individual training.
Medical examinations have reportedly confirmed the setback, with indications that the injury could require surgery. As a result, the 25-year-old is expected to miss the remainder of the season, raising serious concerns over his availability for Ghana’s World Cup campaign in June.
The setback is also a major blow for Tottenham, with new manager Roberto De Zerbi likely to be without one of his key attacking options as the club fights to maintain its Premier League status.
Before the injury, Kudus had registered nine goal involvements across Premier League and European competitions, underlining his importance for both club and country.
