download (1)Dr. Sekou Nkumah, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed interest in contesting the party’s presidential primaries for 2020.

Dr Sekou who has been very critical of President Mahama’s administration and leadership style said “the leadership has to change.’’

According to him President Mahama should “convince Ghanaians that he is genuinely committed to fighting corruption and represent the interest of the common Ghanaian’’.

Speaking on Point Blank on Eyewitness News on Monday, Dr. Sekou said he was willing to offer himself at the highest level if senior members in the party are not going to step up and take responsibility.

“We need now leadership… I can do that at the highest level, I don’t have a problem at all but realistically I think it’s 2020. If others are not going to step up and take responsibility,” he said.

“Some of us feel NDC is our home, yes I rebelled then and you know in 2012 I campaigned for the opposition. Yes, I am back in the NDC, but i am not back to be in bed with the leadership because i am not happy with the leadership,” he added.

He stated that the party should consider changing its leadership, because “winning an election seems to be the easy part for the NDC, but performing in government seems to be the difficult part’’.

Sekou however believes that NDC’s terrible performance in government in government will change with a good leadership.

Dr. Sekou who left the NDC and supported the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2012 general elections said he was back to the NDC.
