Suspect of murdered 32-year-old Banker confesses; I was contracted to kill her

300..1.1633375A 25-year-old man held by police over the murder of a 32-year-old banker at Baatsonaa, a suburb of the capital, Accra says he was contracted to kill Rosemond Akosua Nyampong.

Police investigators say they found the vehicle, and other household items of the deceased with the suspect.

They however say the accounts of the detainee are conflicting.

Rosemond Nyampong who worked with Stanbic Bank and lived alone was found dead in her room on November 21, 2013 with her mouth had been taped.

She had not been seen at work or in public for days prompting her colleagues and family members to begin a frantic search for her.

When they couldn’t reach her via phone, the family sought police permission to break into her home. She was found dead in her kitchen and lying in a pool of blood.

Joy News’ Hannah Odame who has been to the Sakumono District Police Station where Ms Nyampong’s suspected killer is being detained reported that the suspect, according to the police, has been giving conflicting accounts of how Rosemond was killed.

The police said they were yet to confirm any of the claims.

Three persons were initially picked up by the police but only one was found to have links to the murder. The two were subsequently released.

According to the police, most of the things stolen from the residence of the deceased including her car, home theatre, and mobile phones were found in the residence of the suspect.

Residents suspect the killers used a ladder to scale a wall into the house to commit the heinous crime.

The suspect, who is welder by profession, will go back to court on 23 December.

Family members of the deceased said they were in utter shock.

Uncle of the deceased, Samson Nyampong who claimed he first saw the lifeless body of his niece when her room was broken into, told Joy News all the family want is justice.

Rosemond, the first of five children, lost the father about six months ago, he said.

She will be buried on Saturday, December 14, 2013.
