30th January: Nana Konadu to join in Merchant/Fortiz saga demonstration?

23740980_881568A Group known as Public Action Against Corruption And Abuse will soon hit some principal streets in Kumasi to demonstrate against the sale of Merchant Bank to Fortiz.

The group says all arrangements have been completed with the Ashanti Regional police Command and are ready to hit the metropolis with their massive demonstration.

The group, a couple of weeks ago, held a protest march through some principal streets of Accra and the turn out was quite impressive.

Speaking to Hello FM’s King Edward this morning, one of their leaders, the Deputy Communication Director for National Democratic Party(NDP), Ernest Owusu Bempah said the main aim of the demonstration is to stop the “criminal transaction” by government to sell state properties to its cronies at the expense of SSNIT contributors.

Fortiz has acquired 90 percent stake in Merchant Bank with GH¢c90 million. The sale became a subject of legal tussle after anti-graft campaigner, Andrew Awuni challenged the sale at the High Court.

It is about time we stand up for what is right. We are going to let the whole world know how corrupt and insensitive the NDC-led John Mahama administration is, he fumed.

The Demonstration which comes off on 30th January will begin at Adum Post Office through Aseda house, Asafo interchange, Labour roundabout and then finally converge at the Prempeh Assembly Hall for briefing.

“We plan this time round to bring so many political bigwigs on board including Former first lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings,” he revealed.

According to him, they were overwhelmed at the number of people who took part in the Accra demonstration.

Recalling how successful the maiden one which took place in Accra was, he has therefore called on residents of Kumasi to come out in their numbers and rally behind them as they push forward their concerns and fight for truth and accountability.
