Whistle-blower given GHC2,000 by Police

images (4)The Police Administration has rewarded ‘’a patriotic citizen’’ with GHC 2000 for assisting it unravel the operation of a gang of policemen who were extorting monies from innocent persons withdrawing monies from the bank.

The Police in a news release signed by the Director-General/Public Affairs, DCOP David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin said the prospective awardee through a mobile phone technology captured the fake number plate superimposed on the official Police vehicle as shown in the picture.

‘’The Police Administration furthered commended the vigilance and co-operation of the above-mentioned individual which led to the arrest of the perpetrators of the crime.’’

According to the Police the role of victims of crime and general public in solving crimes is crucial. 

‘’Therefore, the Police are calling on members of the public to be vigilant and security conscious and partner the Police to weed out miscreants from the service.’’

The statement also cautioned the public to ‘’scrutinize the identification of Police officers’’ they encounter in order to expose impersonators and unprofessionals.

Meanwhile, the two officers arrested have been processed and would be put before the court soon.

‘’The Police Administration in its commitment to higher professional standards would not shield any policeman or woman who commits criminal offence or any acts of misconduct.’’
