XBox to create music series based on the life of Nas

download (2)If the last fortune cookie you cracked open didn’t tell you it was the year of Nas, it may be time to switch Chinese restaurants. As God’s Son preps to spend a chunk of the year’s first quarter celebrating the 20th anniversary of his classic debut Illmatic, gamer giant XBox is creating a new series based on the life of the Queensbridge soldier.

Fittingly titled Street Dreams, the 30-minute episodes will also feature Nas writing  as well as making musical contributions to the show. Reports Deadline: The project, from Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell’s Electric City Entertainment (The Place Beyond The Pines), is set in the 1990s in Long Island’s Queensbridge housing complex, where Nas grew up, and takes a look at music, family and the levinetrials and tribulations of the rap game.

Street Dreams is being written/directed by Jonathan Levine, who also grew up in New York, spending his formative years in the 1990s. New York in the 90s was the backdrop for his coming of age feature The Wackness, winner of the Audience Award at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.

Nas’ manager, Anthony Seleh, is one of the show’s executive producers. Although Xbox Entertainment Studios has been buying a number of scripted shows there is no timetable at the moment for Street Dreams’ premiere.
