There have been rants and rave from ardent gospel music lovers about how Ghanaian gospel music is sounding so secular. Some even posit that, the Holy Ghost presence felt in songs yesteryears is so missing in this era’s gospel music brewed in Ghana.
Nicholas Omani Acheampong, the ‘Tabitha kum’ Composer has added his voice to the cries saying gospel music in Ghana is losing originality. “When you look at the industry (gospel music) we are losing originality, that’s my observation because every Artiste should be remembered with his song but lately, the life span of gospel music is a year, maximum. This is because the originality has been lost since every Artiste want to sound like another” Nicholas Omani Acheampong said.
“Like some years ago, the female Gospel Artistes were following a particular trend, they were all sounding like a particular Artiste and when air blew that mentor and her appeal reduced, she went off the scene with all those mimicrying her. A person should know his/her ability and God’s purpose on earth and do it well.” Mr. Acheampong said in Twi.
The Zaphaneth paneth Songster further revealed that, it’s been 20 years since he started professional music but most of fans are children, some even less than one year old. “That makes me original, and I’m not saying this to blow my trumpet. This means there is something in me which is so unique and cannot be seen in another Artiste” Omani Acheampong bragged.
On OC Showbiz Review, Skyy Power 93.5 where he was responding to questions, Nicholas agreed that, there is no competition in the gospel music lately as the Music Awards board said. He was quick to say his song is doing well in the system but there should be more of that kind to beef the gospel sector of music.
