MPs bribe sage: Parliament will get to the root of the allegation – Ken Agyapong

images (1)New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, says Parliament will endeavor to get to the root of an allegation that MPs take Bribe.

Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli/Kaleo, Alban S.K. Bagbin, revealed some Members of Parliament (MPs) take bribe to articulate the views of private individuals and organisations, on the floor of Parliament.

He said evidence to that effect existed, and added that the practice had persisted because of the lack of laid-down rules and ethics on lobbying in the country.

This conversation however, according to Hon Bagbin, was supposed to be a private one.

Speaking to the issue in an interview on Peace FM’s Midday news, the NPP kingpin asked Hon Bagbin to present evidence to that effect to parliament, for further action to be taken.

He said it is not right for some MPs to drag the name of their colleagues in the mud by receiving bribes, and so if found, they will be dealt with accordingly.

“He (Hon Bagbin) is a long standing member of parliament and so he should bring evidence to buttress his point so that those MPs will be dealt with because they cannot just cheapen parliament; for us to be insulted anyhow. We will follow this case to the letter; we will make sure we get to the bottom of this case,” Hon. Kennedy Agyapong said.

He added: “it is however good that Hon Bagbin has come out with this statement, it will serve as a wake-up-call for parliament and government. It will make them disburse funds to parliamentary committees on time.”
